Talent for Design or is This Another Behavioral Activity?

Therapists and Intervention

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner can either involve aggression towards care givers or throwing food and drink across the table. In some instances, he may want to show off his artistic talents on his clothes with various sauces and food items. For today’s meal we had mixture of pulled pork, slice of pizza and various sauces (BBQ and ranch dressing for the pizza). Don’t dispute ranch dressing as a dipping sauce for pizza until you have tried it.

Most of the time my son will eat with utensils, but at times reverts back to eating with his hands. He is fully capable of eating with utensils, but would rather eat with his fingers by dredging his pizza through the ranch dressing. The same with he pulled pork; he dredged his fingers and pulled pork through the BBQ sauce. With his hands dirty the sauce transitions to his pants and shirt. He just doesn’t wipe his hands on his pants. He looks for the exact location to place the different color sauces or food pieces on his pants.

Instead of getting mad at him, I continue to observe his behavior and remind him to use the napkin and wipe his hands on there. After we are done eating a late lunch, I look at his pants and figured they look better than the teens and adults running around with holes in every location of their jeans. The holes represent designer style jeans sold for a lot of money. My son must be trying to set a new style for his generation. He is a trend setter ahead of his time; painting food designs on his jeans and shirts. At least in “my own mind”, he is a world class designer whom awaits for his talent scout to stop by and get his permission in a contract to reproduce his designs for the whole world to buy. Here is today’s great design and ready to set a new designer trend across pop culture.
